The Bongongo Angus Stud was founded in 1926 by Fred Graham, who established the herd with carefully selected purebred Angus females from Bald Blair, Guyra. Together with the Graham brothers, Fred laid the foundations for a breeding program built on sound, productive cattle and strong commercial values. Influential genetics from leading studs including Abington, Kahlua, Wallah, Trangie, Wambanumba and Booroomooka helped shape the early Bongongo herd.

Following Fred's untimely passing in 1950, his nephews, Herbert (Bill) Graham and Bruce Graham, carried the stud forward with determination and foresight. Over the next four decades they expanded both the registered and commercial herds, developing cattle well suited to the colder, temperate country of Adjungbilly in southern New South Wales. Their commitment to quality genetics saw the introduction of annual on-property female sales in 1961, which became highly regarded as Angus cattle rose to prominence across Australia.

In 1999, stewardship of Bongongo passed to Bill Graham and his wife Shauna. Today, the stud is based at Riverview, on the banks of the Murrumbidgee River between Coolac and Jugiong, where it continues to evolve while remaining true to the principles that have guided the stud for 100 years.

The wider Graham family continues to share a passion for Angus cattle, with Bill's brothers David, John and Paul each operating successful commercial breeding enterprises focused on fertile, self-replacing cow herds producing premium feeder steers. This close connection to commercial beef production ensures the Bongongo breeding program remains practical, relevant and focused on profitability.

Innovation has long been part of the Bongongo story. In 1994, the herd topped the inaugural AMH Marbling Trial at Caroona Feedlot, reinforcing the stud's commitment to combining fertility, performance and outstanding carcass quality.

Today, Bongongo Angus has grown to more than 1,200 registered breeding females and continues to expand its annual bull offering. While much has changed over the past century, our purpose remains the same—to breed balanced, reliable Angus genetics that deliver lasting value for commercial cattle producers across Australia.
